This was a 1:50 scale model of a hangar at Rochester Airport that took Homer's play 'The Iliad' mixed with Wolfgang Peterson's 'Troy' and adapted it to be set in Camp Bastion, Afghanistan as the war is drawing to a close. I wanted to modernise the story, displaying it in a refreshing, unusual new way. Ther performance would be immersive and interactive, allowing the audience to walk around the hangar as appose to be sitting in a crowd, becoming part of the production themselves as though they are on a journey. Speaking to soldiers from the Maidstone regement and watching BBC One's 'Our Girl' gave me an idea of what life in Afghanistan was like, emotionally and phsyically. The design was heavily influenced by designers Mike Brookes and Mike Pearson and the immersive production of DreamThinkSpeak by ABSCENT. Additionally I took projection influences from Ivo Van Hove and the Louis Vuitton catwalk show designed by Es Devlin.
